A Cham Christmas 2009

31 Dec

Christmas time is by far my favorite time of year.  I fill our little apartment with holiday chotchkies and candles that smell like evergreens and cinnamon.  I pray for snow every night and start planning our yearly Christmas photo card in October.  I make cookies almost every night and study the Real Simple and Martha Stewart Living holiday magazines for inspiration before bed… I turn into a little bit of a Christmas junkie but I love it.  I made gingerbread candies for everyone I work with and boxed them up with green satin ribbon – it was beautiful.

This year for Christmas, Chad and I got our tree from a local farm in Charlotte because making the drive up to the Christmas tree farm in Boone just wasn’t going to happen.

We promplty decorated the tree and Chad did a great job of putting the finishing touch (our Michael Robert’s elf-man-thing).

We decided not to employ Jon this year to take our picture (for time’s sake) and I have to admit, our 2009 Christmas Pic came out a little dark.  So next year, we will beg Jon to come back and take our photo but for now – here is what we came up with:

As usual, we made our trek to Chapel Hill to celebrate the holidays with the family.  It was wonderful and we had a great time.  We finally made it to the annual Wendel Christmas party and we had a blast!  I even got the family to play Apples to Apples (best game EVER… especially with spiked eggnog)!

Per tradition, Chelsea and I made a gingerbread house from the JWU baking club gingerbread kit.  It had everything from a pond to a candy cane light post.

Dad succeeded in putting the topper on the family Christmas tree on Christmas eve and we woke up in the morning and guess what… Santa totally arrived.  It’s sad now that absolutely no one in the family believes in Santa anymore but I guess that’s what happens when people get to be “too cool” and all grown up.  I remember crunching up carrots and putting them in the front yard so that it looked like the reindeer had been there… too much fun.

We had a great time in Chapel Hill for Christmas.  Chad and I played with our new toys and even Moe was content with his presents.  We had planned a trip to Boston just for fun so Chad and I were on our way the day after Christmas, when we returned from our trip, we celebrated Dad and Cheryl’s 20th Wedding Anniversary and then we came back to Charlotte for New Years.  All in all it was a wonderful holiday break and I am looking forward to what 2010 will bring!

Quick Update

11 Dec

Hello world! It’s been a while since I’ve updated this page and although I don’t have all the time in the world, I thought I would give a quick update. Chad and I and Moses are doing well and LOVING Charlotte. What’s not to love? We live on campus, in a city that has a worse crime rate than NYC and it doesn’t snow. Just kidding – it’s really wonderful. Chad found an office space within walking distance to our apartment and he is even able to take Moses there! It’s really nice and surrounded by cool restaurants and fun things to do so 3tailer has a home now.Chad in the new office (before furniture) I have been enjoying working at Johnson and Wales too. My staff is pretty good and the people I work with are amazing! I am really happy here and I think we will be staying here for a while… not necessarily on campus again but we’ll see. Our apartment is pretty good, about a fourth of the size of our apartment at LR but hey, at least it is not crawling with fist-size spiders! AND I have a full size oven (WOOHOO).

Moses is enjoying his time hanging out at Chad’s office and sleeping all day. He has been battling allergies lately (go figure, a hypo-allergenic dog that has allergies) but there are always worse things and I think he actually enjoys taking benadryl every day. It’s almost Christmas time and with that, we have taken our annual trip up to Boone to pick a tree at Clawson’s tree farm. It is a lot bigger than we planned but it looks really nice and certainly brightens up our tiny home. We hope everyone is doing well and has a fantastic holiday season!
